We had a group of 24 riders at the KGG 14-12-2018. Swartberg Pass dealt out it's usual punishment, this time it added a little heat and a bumpier road surface. This did not deter the group at all and they threw themselves at the Swartberg Massif without hesitation. Not everyone made it up, but that's what challenges are all about, there is always the opportunity to come again and conquer it.
On the second part of day one you climb 700m over 9.8km, probably some of the toughest kilometres you will do on your bike. The views and sense of achievement are well worth it though.
It's always nice to know the support vehicles are not far behind to look after you if the need arises.
And there is of course all that lovely food waiting at the end of each day.
